Carrying forward the nationwide awareness campaign addressing the depleting conditions of the rivers, Chandigarh unit of ‘Rally for Rivers’ has unveiled an art installation at Elante Mall here.
Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher launched the event at Elante Mall. The ‘Rally of Rivers’ is initiated by Sadhguru.
The life size installation stands at a height of 8 feet, length of 12 feet and width of 6.5 feet. It features a giant tap on a three sided structure with a cut-out of India depicting ‘Rally for Rivers’ route on the second side and RFR poster imagery on the third side. A white picket fence runs around the tap with a metal frog placed behind the fence, holding the ‘Rally for Rivers’ poster. Predominant colors of the installation are shades of blue mirroring the campaign theme.
Giving a subtle message to the public to check the wastage of water in their homes, volunteers urged them not to let the taps run dry. According to volunteers ‘Rally for Rivers’ has drawn huge mass support which can potentially change the plight of our rivers if this energy is channelised to change policies that can give our rivers another lease of life. It will also serve the rivers - and us - well, if we view them in a difference light.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Kirron Kher appreciated the comprehensive river rejuvenation plan by Sadhguru to reform the state of rivers in India. She said that Indian rivers are going into depletion and the perineal rivers have become seasonal.
According to the estimates by experts by 2030, only 50% water will be available required for our survival. Further, 25% of India is becoming desert. As compared to 1947, we have about 75% lesser water per person available today.
