After being accused of absence from the city, Bollywood actor and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher on Thursday said that she is ready to take up the issues of city denizens with UT Administration and also, Union Ministry, if required.
Following her victory, she stayed away from the city and after more than a month, had returned to the city on Sunday and since then, has been busy meeting the general public.
Talking to the mediapersons on Thursday, Kher said, “I have started meeting general public and conducting meetings everyday to look into the problems of the city residents.”
She said, “My priority is to fulfill all the promises made in election manifesto. The issues like shortage of water supply, interrupted power supply, traffic congestion, problem of villages, implementation of MSMED, housing problems among others needs to be addressed and I have started working on it.”
About multi-crore metro project of the city, Kher said, “I am not against the project but thinks that the project is very costly. And, the higher cost of more than 10,000 crore of the said project can be utilized in improving the existing public transport and infrastructure in Chandigarh.”
On the issue of revival of Chief Commissioner post in Chandigarh, she said, “At present, the existing set up is all right and if required in the future, she will pursue the matter of revival of Chief Commissioner post with the Union Ministry.”
Chandigarh BJP has time and again raised the issue of revival of post of Chief Commissioner in UT Chandigarh.
Since the inception of Chandigarh as Union Territory, Chief Commissioner was the Administrator of Chandigarh. However in the year 1984 after notification dated May 30, 1984, the post of Administrator was snatched and given to Arjun Singh, the then Governor of Punjab and the Chief Commissioner who was in fact the Administrator of Chandigarh was re-designated as Adviser to the Administrator.
About cooperation of UT senior officials, Kirron said that she is getting full support of all the UT officials and will be holding meetings with them about various ongoing and planned development projects of the city.
