Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Saturday said that Bhagavad Gita is not only a religious scripture, but also a symbol of respect and essence of the spiritual system.

Speaking after inaugurating the exhibition organised by various departments and social institutions in Karnal, he said that the messages derived from the Gita work significantly in taking our lifestyle further and we can put an end to various social evils prevalent in the society by following such messages.

Appreciating the information pertaining to Saraswati Heritage displayed in three stalls and lessons of Gita on panels and messages on hoardings put up by the Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department, the Chief Minister said that these messages have to be taken to the public and work to further improve the system has to be carried out. This can be done in a better manner by organising such mahotsavas.

The Chief Minister went around the exhibition and inspected the stalls of horticulture, agriculture, education, irrigation, fisheries, animal husbandry, women and child development departments, Haryana State legal Services Authority and stalls of other social institutions.

A day before, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma requested the state Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki to rechristen the name of ‘Kurukshetra University’ in the state.

The request put forth by the Minister was fully supported by the Governor, who said the demand raised by the Education Minister is valid.

Ram Bilas Sharma earlier said, “Kurukshetra is the place where the sermon of “Bhagvad Gita” was given by lord Krishna. So, I request to change the name of “Kurukshetra University” to “Gita University”.
