Following the spurt in militant activities in the neighbouring Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab has been put on alert. Punjab is bordered by Jammu & Kashmir in the north, while it shares international border with the Pakistani province of Punjab in the west. Punjab police has formed several teams which have been deployed in Pathankot and ludhiana districts. Barricades have been put on roads and vehicles are being scrutinised.
Pathankot Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Prabhjot Singh Virk said that the recent militant attacks in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir prompted them to tighten security measures. The militants have also stepped up attacks on security personnel and police in Kashmir.
