Haryana Government would construct seven big gates for the beautification of Karnal, of which one would be named after Guru Nanak Dev.
This was announced by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal, while speaking at a function organised on the occasion of Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev.
The Chief Minister also laid down the foundation stone of Guru Nanak Dev Dharamshala in Karnal. He said that the four-storey dharamshala, to be built on a piece of land measuring one lakh square feet, would comprise 52 rooms and two big halls. A big light would also be installed in Dera Kar Sewa. The district administration would make arrangements for parking, he said. He also announced to give Rs 21 lakh from his discretionary fund for the construction of the dharamshala.
Paying glowing tributes to the first Sikh guru, the Chief Minister said that Guru Nanak Dev launched the Bhakti Movement and made the people aware through songs and music.
He taught the people that the society would progress if they worked hard and worshipped God. His message to eschew discrimination on the basis of caste and religion is still relevant and everyone should follow it, added Manohar lal.
The Chief Minister also lauded the efforts made by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Mirabai and Sant Kabir to promote values such as patriotism, spirit of public service, and making the people aware about the needs of the society.
He also said that 98 per cent of the people are happy with the historic decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, regarding demonetisation of high-denomination currency notes. He said that the Prime Minister made the announcement at 8 pm on November 8 and set the deadline for utilisation of the old Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes to prevent those hoarding black money from taking evasive action. Therefore, utter secrecy was maintained in this regard, he added.
The Chief Minister, while talking to the mediapersons later, greeted the children of the State on the occasion of Children’s Day and wished them a bright future and success in life. He also hailed the Supreme Court’s decision on the Sutlej-Yamuna link (SYl) Canal and said that the supply of canal water would quench the thirst of fields in the State.
Replying to a question, he said that the daily wages of home guards had been almost doubled from Rs 300 to Rs 572. Responding to a question regarding redressal of complaints received on CM Window, he said that redressal took some time due to shortage of staff and some of the complaints were very old. The system is being changed gradually, he added.
