Taking no chance with the increased use of performance enhancing drugs among players, the trials for the selection of players for Indian Kabaddi team will be held under the scanner of National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
The anti-dope agency would conduct dope tests during the trials too.
The previous three editions of World Cup Kabaddi was a bitter experience with a record number of players failing the dope tests.
While the world cup’s organising committee has decided to conduct trials, for both men and women’s team, under NADA’s supervision, it has, on the other hand, thrown open the gates for erring players giving them a chance to participate in the mega event.
“Those players, who were found dope positive during any previous World Cup, can also participate in the fourth edition of World Cup Kabaddi by getting ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the NADA,” said Punjab Kabaddi Association president Sikander Singh Maluka.
He said that to maintain the event drug-free, National Anti-Doping Agency would conduct dope tests
during trials.
The trials for Indian Kabaddi team would be conducted at Punjab Agriculture University from November 9 to 12 for both men and women section. The selected players would participate in the ensuing Kabaddi World Cup scheduled from November 30 to December 14.
Maluka said that for the fourth World Cup Kabaddi, trials for both categories under circle style Kabaddi would be conducted at ludhiana. “Selection trials for men category would be held on November 9 and 10 following the women category trials on November 11 and 12,” he added.
He said that the desiring players should report to the authorities on November 9 before 8 am along with documents including proof of domicile.
“In this edition, there would be 12 nations in men category while eight teams in women category would vie for the titles of Rs2 crore and Rs1 crore and Rs51 lakh in men’s category respectively,” he added.
Maluka said that in women category, the prize money would be Rs1 crore, Rs51 lakh and Rs25 lakh respectively for winner, runner-up and third place while a cash award of Rs10 lakh would be given to each of the participating teams.
