In a bizarre incident, a man killed his wife and later surrendered before Balikuda police on Saturday.
The accused was identified as Harsabradhan Swain, a resident of Nuagaon village under Apandara Panchayat in Balikuda block, while the deceased was identified as Mamata Rani Swain hailing from Dhanuharbelari village under Marchipur Panchayat.
Meanwhile, police have seized the body and sent it for postmortem. The accused is being interrogated, informed Balikuda police station IIC Balaram Nayak.
Reports said that Swain had married Mamamtarani a year ago and after being pregnant recently, she had been residing with her parents. Harsabardhan, who works in a jewelry shop at Bhubaneswar, had visited his in-laws’ house three days ago. On Friday evening, both the husband and wife had quarreled following a family problem.
Harsabardhan attacked Mamatarani with a spade. Serious injured, she was shifted to hospital for treatment where she died.
