Congress party in Punjab suffered another major setback in ludhiana district as its former district youth president (urban) Dimple Rana along with his thousands of supporters joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday.
Besides, Bahujan Samaj Party stare secretary Jagdish Singh Jassowal also joined the Akali Dal. Welcoming the Congress and BSP leaders into the party fold, SAD president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said that the day-to-day exodus of Congress leaders from their parent party proved that there was no future of Congress in Punjab.
“It also proved that SAD would register massive victories on all 13 lok Sabha seats in ensuing Parliamentary elections,” said Sukhbir. The party chief said that Congress camp was completely demoralised as infighting was at its peak. “In stark contrast, the SAD is gaining strength each day due to the faith being reposed in the party by all sections of the society,” he added.
Dimple Rana said that he was quitting the party “in disgust”, making it clear that he did not fit into the “five-star culture represented by Punjab Pradesh Congress leaders”.“It is an irony that Congress leaders from Punjab who could not win a village level election are given weightage by Congress high command in Delhi,” he added.
