“Join hands in the fight against drug abuse,” urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday, as he declared drug addiction to be a grave social evil and appealed to citizens to support the government’s ambitious statewide de-addiction campaign. He emphasized that building a strong and healthy Haryana requires united efforts at every level of society.
Addressing a state-level function organized in Uchana, Jind, to mark the birth anniversary of revered saint Dhanna Bhagat Ji, the Chief Minister announced that a Cyclothon Yatra was being launched as part of the anti-drug initiative. The Yatra aims to spread awareness among youth and communities about the dangers of drug abuse and the need for a clean, disciplined life.
“The government is committed to eradicating drug abuse from its roots. But this mission will only succeed when every citizen becomes a part of it. Let us stand together, protect our youth, and secure our future,” he said.
The Chief Minister also urged parents to take proactive steps in educating their children and fostering a spirit of unity and compassion in society. “By following the ideals of Bhagat Ji, we can eliminate social evils and bridge the gaps of caste and creed,” he added.
Paying glowing tributes to Dhanna Bhagat Ji, Saini described him as a guiding light for generations. “Bhagat Ji’s personality was as serene and luminous as the full moon. His devotion, humility, and unwavering commitment to truth continue to inspire millions,” he said.
He recalled that Dhanna Bhagat Ji, a devoted disciple of Saint Ramanand Acharya Ji, played a pivotal role in the Bhakti Movement across northern India, especially in Rajasthan. His teachings, the Chief Minister said, were rooted in equality, compassion, and selfless service—values that are critical in today’s socially fragmented world.
Responding to public demands, Saini also announced a series of developmental projects for village Palwa. These include the construction of a retaining wall for the village pond, a shed and a room, upgrades to the Daadam Khap Bhawan boundary wall and grill, and the installation of a 40 KW solar panel. A veranda-cum-hall will also be built at the Bhawan to facilitate community events.
Highlighting the contributions of saints and sages to Indian society, the Chief Minister said: “They have always shown us the path of righteousness. Their teachings are a national treasure.” To preserve and promote this legacy, the state has launched the Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samman Evam Prasar Yojana, under which state-level events are organized to honour spiritual icons.
Former Minister and BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar, BJP state president Mohan Lal Kaushik, and Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala also spoke on the occasion, recalling Bhagat Ji’s spiritual legacy and unwavering devotion that earned him divine blessings from Lord Krishna.
Earlier in the event, Saini paid floral tributes to the saint’s portrait, honoured spiritual leaders present, and released a book on Bhagat Ji’s life and teachings. He reiterated that inspired by Bhagat Ji’s ideals, the government remains committed to building a prosperous, harmonious, and drug-free Haryana.
