Stepping up their State-wide campaign to get Other Backward Class (OBC) status in the Centre, the Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading the campaign, has decided to show black flags to Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26 if Jats are not accorded the OBC status by then.
A decision to this effect was taken at a State-level meeting held at Chhotu Ram Park here. The meeting was attended by leaders of various Khaps and office-bearers of the samiti.
Om Prakash Dhankhar, samiti's general secretary, said Jats would not sit calmly without getting their due right of reservation and would step up their reservation campaign to mount pressure on the Government for getting their long-standing demand met.
"The samiti has decided to dispatch 200 different groups of Jats having 10 members each in the group to Delhi on January 26 next for showing black flags to the Republic Day parade to register their protest against the Government," said Dhankhar, adding that the flags would be distributed among the Jats by organising a programme on January 15 next.
He maintained that reservation in the Centre was the due right of Jats who were all set to fight a decisive battle for getting their right but despite being given assurance in this regard, the Union Government was not taking any firm action to fulfil their demand causing acute resentment among the community across the nation, he added.
"We shall wait for the Government's decision on the reservation till January 15 next and shall express gratitude of the Union Government if it accorded the OBC status to Jats otherwise a national-level campaign will be launched against the Centre," said Dhankhar.
The Jat leader said that the samiti would also extend its full support to those khaps who had recently announced to launch a fresh stir against the Centre for OBC status.
Meanwhile, Hawa Singh Sangwan, State president of the samiti, said, "Jats have been demanding OBC status in the Centre since January 26, 2008 but the Union Government has paid no heed to the demand for the last six years. In this situation, Jats have no other option but to oppose the Government."
He claimed that OBC status in Centre was their due right and they would take it at any cost.
