Jat organisations demand withdrawal of case

Jat organisations have announced to launch a major stir against Haryana Government if Section 307 (attempt to murder) is not withdrawn against the five men who had roughed up and threw ink at BJP Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini.

The invoking of the attempt to murder charge against the accused has led to an angry reaction among Jat community and opposition parties.

Jat youth on Wednesday held protest in Kurukshetra demanding withdrawal of Section 307 against the five accused. On the other hand, ‘Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat’ in Jind and Jat Aarakashan Sangharsh Sanchalan Samiti have warned the State Government of a state-wide agitation if the charges against the youths under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) are not dropped.

The opposition parties Congress and INlD have also come out in support of the five youth.

leader of the Indian National lok Dal and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday said that invoking Section 307 against the accused was wrong. The accused were only registering their protest against Saini, said he.

Accusing Chief Minister Manohar lal of giving patronage to Saini, who has been issuing anti-community statements and spreading communal tension, Chautala said that the BJP Government has failed to take action against its own MP Saini for issuing anti-community statement.

The Hisar MP demanded withdrawal of Section 307 against the accused.

On the other hand, Congress spokesman Ran Singh Mann said that the State Government is abusing the law of the land.

Five youths from a village in Hisar district had allegedly manhandled Saini when he was returning after addressing a function in Kurukshetra on October 16. All the accused were booked and arrested in a case of murder attempt and other sections.

The FIR lodged against the accused includes Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which invites a punishment of up to life imprisonment. Besides Section 307, the five accused have also been charged with assault targeted to defame a person and act which could result in communal clashes in the case registered at Kurukshetra's city police station

While the youth who had attacked Saini accused him of fueling communal tension, Saini has  alleged that it was a well planned conspiracy.

The Kurkukshetra MP on Wednesday said that chemical was used during the attack on him by five youth on Sunday.

He has also sought a Central Bureau of Investigation into the incident. Saini had also alleged that the youths who attacked him were members of the Indian National Students Organization (INSO) and Indian National lok Dal (INlD) and wanted to kill him.

Saini has been vocal against reservation to Jat community.
