Yashpal Malik, chief of a Jat organisation and his supporters were allegedly attacked by people of another Jat group during a public meeting in Samain village at Haryana’s Fatehabad on Monday.

Nearly 20 people were injured in the fracas. Jat leader Malik’s supporters managed to take him to safety, the police said, adding that his vehicle was also damaged.

The attackers also tried to obstruct videography of the incident by pushing around cameramen and mediapersons.

Malik is president of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), which had spearheaded the agitation in support of the reservation demand in 2016. Sube Singh Samain, another leader of the Samiti had opposed the public meeting of Malik in his village Samain, but the victim paid no heed to his warning and came to address the people there.

Reportedly, Singh reached the meeting carrying sticks and allegedly attacked Malik on the stage, they said. Three Jat leaders Ashok Balhara, Raghubir Gajuwala and sarpanch Om Prakash were also hurt during the clash.
