Jain raises Wakf properties issue with Heptulla

Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kavita Jain has submitted a memorandum regarding anomalies in the Wakf Board Property lease law, 2014 to Union Minority Affairs Minister and Chairperson, Central Wakf Council, Dr Najma Heptulla in New Delhi.

Kavita Jain, who met the Union Minister on Friday at a national conference in New Delhi, gave several suggestions for facilitating tenants of Wakf properties. Dr Heptulla assured her that these suggestions would be considered.

Jain informed the Union Minister that during the regime of the Congress, such conditions and rules were framed for tenants of Wakf properties which were not feasible and led to discontentment.

Criticising the move to evict old tenants from their properties, Jain gave several suggestions in view of the present situation.

The Social Justice Minister suggested that the base rate for re-letting Wakf property should be reduced from 2.5 per cent of the market rate to one per cent. Referring to the issue of giving Wakf property on rent through tender process in three years, she suggested that such properties should be allotted on the basis of fixed increase in three years instead of conducting auction amongst old tenants.

The Union Minister assured to seriously consider the demands and make changes according to feasibility. Notably, the issue of Wakf properties was raised during the recently concluded budget session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha. The BJP leaders and also, main opposition INlD had demanded to make changes in Wakf Board Property lease law, 2014.
