The City Beautiful will witness the second International Puppet Festival at Tagore Theatre from February 24 to 28.

The art lovers in Chandigarh would get an opportunity to witness puppetry, another traditional and powerful medium of art and entertainment where the groups from India, Spain, Ireland, UK and Bulgaria will perform.

The five-day festival slated to commence on February 24 from 7 pm onwards (daily) at Tagore Theatre would bring together international puppet groups ensuring that the city denizens get indulged in the best of performing arts from India and abroad.

The UT Cultural Affairs Department would organise this International Puppet Festival in association with The Ishara International Puppet Theatre Trust, New Delhi.

Dhola Maru, a folk tale that originated in northern Rajasthan would be performed by Aakar Puppet Theatre group on the inaugural day i.e., February 24 of the festival.

Seven Goatings, would be performed by Paca Garcia Y Aniceto Roca from Spain on February 25, The Musical Menagerie by Thomas Baker and Boris Hunka from Ireland on February 26, Peter And The Wolf by Drew Colby from Ireland on February 27, Tumba-lumba to be performed by artistes from Bulgaria on February 28

The Musical Menagerie show combines the musical imagination of Boris Hunka, (multi-instrumentalist, improviser and composer) with the skills of renowned puppeteer and actor Thomas Baker. And, the Tumba-lumba show leads us in a typical folk environment to Bulgaria. Tumba-lumba is a word picture of the rhythm and sound of the drum — the elder of the Bulgarian folk percussion instruments.

A senior official of the UT Cultural Affairs Department said, “The Festival is aimed at increasing public awareness about the art form of puppetry.” The five-day Puppet Festival would be organised in association with The Ishara International Puppet Theatre Trust, New Delhi, he added.

The maiden International Puppet Festival was organised at Tagore Theatre from April 13-15 last year.
