On International Day of People with Disability, the UT Administration conducted a special event to spread awareness of its disability helpline 181.

The 24-hour toll free helpline 181 caters to the needs of women, children, persons with disabilities as well as senior citizens. The International Day of People with Disability (December 3) is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. The theme for this year as celebrated by the UT Department of Social Welfare was Enable the Disabled. The participants from various institutions took part at the event that was organised at Bal Bhavan Sector 23 here. All the people from different organisations were made aware of the helpline which functions 24x7 for persons with disabilities.

Many cultural performances were presented by children with intellectual disability, physical challenge, hearing impairment, visual impairment, autism spectrum disorder and other kinds of challenges. Other events were rangoli making, fancy dress as well as declamation which was open for all the students of all the participating organisations. All the volunteers and children were wearing silver and pink ribbons, which signify the colours of disability.
