leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly and senior INlD’s senior Abhay Singh Chautala on Tuesday warned the State Government of intensifying the party’s agitation if the construction of Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal does not begin by July 17.
The INlD-BSP combine are currently holding ‘Jail Bharo Andalon’ protest across the state to press for the demand of construction of SYl canal.
Before courting arrest, alongwith other INlD-BSP leaders and workers in Jhajjar during the ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’, Chautala on Tuesday said that the party will intensify its protest after July 17 if the State Government fails to start construction of SYl canal by then.
“The BJP had promised to construct SYl canal before 2014 polls, but after coming to the power in the state, the party is now finding ways to delay its constructions,” Chautala alleged.
The INlD-BSP had jointly launched ‘Jail Bharo Andalon’ on May 1 in Bhiwani to press for the demand of construction of Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal and raise the issues including implementation of Swaminanthan report, construction of Dadupur Nalvi irrigation project, loan waiver for farmers.
