INLD's PAC meets to discuss poll strategy

Facing an uphill task in ensuing Lok Sabha polls, Indian National Lok Dal’s political affairs committee met in Rohtak on Wednesday to discuss the strategy for the polls.

While the party leaders are quitting the INLD one by one in election season, the INLD has so far failed to stitch an alliance with another political party to contest on 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.

The political affairs committee met a day after the Haryana Speaker had announced to remove INLD secretary general Abhay Chautala from the post of Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly.

With two party MLAs resigning from the State Assembly and joining the BJP, the INLD’s number reduced to 15 in the State Assembly and the Congress with 17 MLAs became second largest party in the State Assembly.

After the PAC meeting, INLD secretary general Abhay Chautala while talking to the mediapersons said that the party will contest on its own on all 10 seats in Haryana.

It has been decided the committee constituted under INLD state president Ashok Arora will conclude its statewide tour in the first week of April and finalize the list of probable candidates for 10 seats soon. The list will be submitted to INLD chief OP Chautala, who will finalize the party’s nominees for Lok Sabha polls, said Chautala, who is an MLA from Ellenabad.

Reacting to the reports that Haryana Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar has sent notices to four MLAs who have joined Jannayak Janta Party and sought their reply in this regard, Chautala said that these members should be disqualified.

Notably, Chautala had last week written a letter to the Speaker seeking disqualification of five MLAs including Ranbir Gangwa who had joined the BJP and INLD MLAs- Naina Chautala (Dabwali), Rajdeep Phogat (Dadri), Prithi Singh Namberdar (Narwana) and Anoop Dhanak (Uklana) who had joined Dushyant Chautala’s Janata Jananayak Party (JJP).

Another INLD MLA, Kehar Singh Rawat had also joined the BJP earlier this week.

Both Gangwa and Kehar Singh have already resigned from the State Assembly.

There are speculations that more INLD leaders may also join hands with rival camps in the coming days.
