Former Haryana Chief Minister and President of the INLD, Om Prakash Chautala on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealing for withdrawal of agricultural laws in the interest of the country and the farmers. In his letter, he wrote that it has been more than a month since the farmers were agitating in cold weather but no concrete solution has been found so far. This is a sad situation because farmers generally do not participate in any movement and if this is happening today, then it needs to be viewed sensitively, he said.
He wrote that there is probably a mistake in the government's communication with the farmers regarding agricultural laws, due to which a situation of conflict has arisen.
The former Chief Minister wrote to the Prime Minister citing his long political experience that the farmers do not want the three agricultural laws, so they should give up the dogma and accept the demand of the farmers. Giving the example of the farmers of Bihar, he wrote that you are well aware of their condition, who despite being the owners of the land, are forced to do work in states like Haryana and Punjab.
He said that there should be no haste in enforcing these agricultural laws nor should it be made a matter of ego because even a small piece of land is dear to his life for the farmer.
The former CM expressed deep grief over the death of nearly 50 farmers who were martyred so far and asked what would be more ironic is that in an agrarian country like India where the farmer has a special place but still is forced to agitate for his rights on the road. He said the Prime Minister belongs to the entire country, so keeping in mind these aspects, agricultural laws should be either withdrawn or suspended till the farmers organizations do not agree.
