Indian National lok Dal (INlD) has fielded Ram Kumar Kashyap, President of its Backward Classes’ Cell, as party candidate for one of the two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana. The elections for Rajya Sabha candidates will be held on February 7. Sources in the party said INlD had to choose a candidate from backward class community to woo the voters from the community for upcoming lok Sabha and assembly elections in 2014. Earlier the names of Mange Ram Gupta, former Finance Minister of Haryana and Bishan lal Saini were doing the rounds for Rajya Sabha nomination.
On Monday INlD chief Om Prakash Chautala’s MlA-son Abhay Singh Chautala announced the name of Kashyap after chairing a meeting of all MlAs at Chandigarh.
The tenure of both Congress MPs from Rajya Sabha — Ram Prakash and Ishwer Singh is ending on April 9 and on the basis of numbers of MlAs, one seat would go to the Congress while the other seat would go INlD.
