Continuing with its drive against the hike in electricity tariffs, a delegation of the main opposition, INlD on Monday handed over a representation to Chief Minister Manohar lal at his official residence in Chandigarh, demanding rollback in hike and a high-level probe into the recent paddy scam.

Declaring Haryana Government's decision to impose restrictions on State Government employees to protest and resort to agitation, as undemocratic, leader of Opposition in the State, Abhay Singh Chautala said that Government should revoke the decision immediately.

Repeating the demand to get the alleged land scams of previous Hooda Government investigated, the delegation again handed over the charge sheet against the previous Government. Besides Chautala, INlD president Ashok Arora and other leaders were part of the delegation.

Addressing media on the occasion, Chautala said that INlD had earlier handed over the same charge sheet to the Governor, but despite assurance by the Chief Minister in the Assembly, no action has been taken to initiate investigation in the previous land scams.

He said that repeated hike in electricity tariffs have affected the poor badly and people are paying highest price for electricity in the country ie, `10.75 per unit.

“Government has failed to prevent theft of electricity and is forcing common consumer to pay for those who enjoy free electricity or for those who have not paid their bills for long,” he added.

Alleging of embezzlement of money in the procurement of Paddy this season, Chautala said that a scam to the tune of `10 thousand crore has taken place. Farmers have been paid `1200- `1250 for their produce against the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of `1450 per quintal. He said that an embezzlement of such magnitude could not have taken place without the involvement of government agencies and authorities. "A high level probe should be done to bring the truth before the public," he added.

He said "To protest against the hike in electricity tariffs, INlD has decided to start indefinite protest in front of Shakti Bhawan, the head quarter of power department.
