INlD alleges PM not giving time to political parties on SYl

INlD, Haryana’s main Opposition party on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is befooling the people of the State by deliberately not giving time to meet a delegation of political parties from the State on Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal issue.

“About 15-20 days have passed but Prime Minister has not given time to meet a State delegation  on SYl issue. This shows that Prime Minister is befooling the people of Haryana,” said leader of opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala while addressing people in Bhiwani during the Jan Jagran Abhiyan.

The party is organising Jan Jagran Abhiyan from December 1 to January 15, to garner the support of the people on the SYl issue and urging them to reach Ambala on February 23, to start digging the SYl canal if the Centre fails to do so.

An all party delegation led by Chief Minister Manohar lal had on November 28 met President Pranab Mukherjee urging him for implementation of the SC verdict on SYl issue at the earliest.

Chautala said that it was decided to meet the Prime Minister also, on the SYl issue.

Notably, an all party meeting held by Chief Minister on November 17 had decided to call on the President and Prime Minister urging them early implementation of SC’s decision on SYl canal completion.

The decision was taken a day after Punjab Assembly had passed a resolution against giving away any land for construction of the canal and resolving to make non-riparian states Rajasthan and Delhi to pay for using waters of Ravi and Beas.

The SAD-BJP led Punjab Government had also announced not to accept SC directions and not to “allow a single drop of water” to be taken from the state.

Chautala said that it is since 1966 that Haryana is fighting to get justice on water sharing issue. With SC’s decision in Haryana’s favour, the government should ensure that the state gets its water share from Punjab at the earliest, said the INlD leader.
