The main opposition in Haryana, INlD on Tuesday accused Haryana Government of discriminating between the farmers of different areas for granting compensation in acquiring agricultural land. It also alleged that government’s recent decision of making education qualification compulsory in the Panchayat Elections has deprived 87 per cent people of the State from participating in the elections.

An INlD delegation led by leader of opposition and senior INlD leader Abhay Singh Chautala and party’s state president Ashok Arora met Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki seeking his intervention on both the issues.

In the memorandum submitted to the Governor, the INlD leaders said that agriculture land was being acquired from Pyoda, Kyodak, Harsola, Sega, Narad, Gyong and Ujhana villages and the government was paying Rs27 lakh per acre while the market rates are around Rs50 lakh to Rs1 crore per acre.

Alleging discrimination, the memorandum says that the government was paying Rs46 lakh per acre in Kalayat, Pehowa and Ismailabad to the farmers, although the land in all these villages is being acquired for the construction of Kaithal bypass. The memorandum says that some farmers are sitting on hunger strike against the move of the government. INlD has demanded compensation to Rs70 lakh per acre for all the farmers.

Talking to media in front of Haryana Raj Bhawan, Abhay Chautala criticised Government’s recent decision of making education qualification compulsory in Panchayat elections alleging that it has deprived 87 per cent people of the state from participating in the elections. He said that there was no educational condition on the election of MPs and MlAs. The decision to put this condition is a tactic to delay the Panchayat elections. He reiterated that the INlD is ready to contest Panchayat elections on the party symbol if BJP and Congress field their candidates on their symbol.
