Infosys on Friday announced the construction of its 25,000 seats Mohali facility within one month, and said it is committed to complete its first stage within 18 months. The “commitment” was made by Infosys’ executive vice-president Ramadas Kamath to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal during an interaction held in Bengaluru as a part of the build up to the Invest Punjab Summit, being held in Mohali in October this year.
Sukhbir is currently visiting Bengaluru to ensure the participation of major IT players and other industrial houses in the upcoming meet for mobilising investment in Punjab.  It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab has allotted 50 acres of land to the Infosys and 26 other industrial players in February 2014. The land was allotted for three years on lease on the condition that if the companies failed to invest in stipulated time, Punjab government will scrap the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The company committed an investment of about Rs 527 crore in phases at the proposed Mohali facility.
Besides Infosys, Sukhbir also held meetings with other industrial groups and according to Punjab Government officials, Volvo has proposed to enter into public private partnership (PPP) with the Punjab government for the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) in Amritsar besides considering setting up a manufacturing facility for Volvo cars in Punjab.
Volvo India managing director Kamal Bali and Volvo buses managing director VRV Sriprasad, during their interaction with Sukhbir and his team, said that there was a huge scope for cooperation in city bus and bus rapid transport systems.Sriprasad said that Volvo was the only company which was manufacturing BRTS buses and viability of a joint venture with Volvo for BRTS was discussed.
