KP Singh, Haryana Director General, Jails on Tuesday said that ‘Information Kiosks’ would be inaugurated in all jails of the State on October 2 to bring about transparency.
“These would have all information pertaining to jail inmates. Besides, all jails in the state had been digitised. Medical and other records related to prisoners have been computerized. Even custody certificate is now sent to the court through computer only,” said Singh while talking to the mediapersons.
Singh said that all jails in Haryana have become completely cashless under the cashless scheme of the government.
Now, prisoners do not have cash with them. Earlier, members of the families of prisoners who used to come to visit them in jail would hand over cash to them. Many complaints were received about this system which has been stopped. Now, the relatives can deposit money in the prisoner’s account, he added.
A software had been developed to facilitate the inmates under which a prisoner could make payment in biometric manner, if he has to purchase some material from the jail canteen. About Rs 8 to 9 lakh cash is deposited by the families in all jails for the prisoners, Singh added.
