Infighting intensifies in Punjab Cong

Further intensifying the war for supremacy in the Punjab Congress , the former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday said that the party high command was well aware of ground realities in Punjab as he had already briefed the party chief Sonia Gandhi during his meeting recently. Congress Deputy leader in lok Sabha also added that he had also provided comprehensive feedback to the party president in a letter.

Capt Amarinder’s assertions assume significance as the State party chief Partap Singh Bajwa had met the party high command on Saturday and had reportedly apprised it regarding his bête noire’s proposed plans to start a mass contact programme in the state and an idea to float his own party. The party high command is also taking on priority the issue of intense infighting in the state party unit ahead the next state assembly polls, scheduled to be held in 2017.

Reacting to reports in a section of media that Congress general secretary in-charge of state party affairs Shakeel Ahmad had called for reports about ground activity, the Amritsar MP said that he (Ahmad) was welcome to get the feedback from him (Amarinder) lest he got inaccurate information. “Ground realities cannot be changed or camouflaged no matter how desperately someone tries,” he said. “And the ground reality is that Congress rank and file is unanimous and united in its resolve and has already resolved to get rid of the corrupt Akali-BJP alliance and have already started working towards that end,” said Capt Amarinder.
