Rao Inderjit Singh’s comments on the controversial land deal between Robert Vadra and real estate giant DlF has left the Chief Minister and other senior congress leaders of the State in an embarrassing situation and they refrained from commenting on the issue.
Rao Inderjit Singh, Congress MP from Gurgaon on Monday demanded a thorough probe into all the land transaction that took place in the Gurgaon division over the last seven years, so that the State Government could come out clean by nailing the main culprit."I personally feel that the administration has not functioned in a proper manner. I don’t hold any personal grudge against Robert Vadra and I don’t have any vested interests in prosecuting him. My business is to keep a watch and take note if anybody has made money illegally through land deals in my constituency. If it is Robert Vadra than he should be held accountable too,” said Singh. He has also demanded a thorough CBI probe into the matter.
On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda cancelled all his scheduled programs to be held in Chandigarh on Tuesday and maintained a distance from the media to avoid being questioned on this controversy. Hooda didn’t attend the Shaityakar Samman Samaroh organised by Haryana Sanskrit Academy at Haryana Rajya Bhawan which he was scheduled to attend earlier and he also was not present to chair the internal meeting of officials on Tuesday. According to sources, the CM even avoided the public on Tuesday.
The mobile phone of Phool Chand Mullana, State Congress president was switched off till late night. Mullana even snubbed the reporters who went to his residence to contact him. Cabinet Ministers of Haryana also decided to stay mum on the issue and refused to comment. Shiv Charan lal Sharma, Minister of State Information and Public Relations said that Rao Inderjit Singh should have not passed any comment on the issue being a senior leader of the Congress. Sharma distanced himself by saying that the comments given by Singh depict his personal opinion.
Senior members within the Congress are of the view that Singh has stoned the beehive by passing such comments and has dug his own grave by attacking the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. A senior congress MlA from Haryana on condition of anonymity said, “This time, Singh has directly attacked the party high command in Delhi and he will have to pay heavily for his actions. He might have to leave the party but it is up to the party high command to decide about his membership in the party.”
But Singh’s comment has provided the opposition with enough fuel to raise a political fire. Indian National lok Dal, Haryana BJP and Haryana Janhit Congress are now up in arms and have demanded a thorough probe into Vadra land deal by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court. Ram Bilas Sharma, President Haryana BJP has alleged that a hefty amount of public money has been siphoned in the said deal which took place in the area of Gurgaon, Yamunanagar and Faridabad. BJP and HJC leaders have submitted a memorandum to the Governor on the issue on Tuesday evening.
Earlier on Monday a memorandum concerning the alleged multi-crore land deal scam was submitted by the INlD to Governor. Both INlD and BJP have announced that they will bring up the issue in the upcoming monsoon session of Haryana Assembly which is to commence from September 6.
