Hi-tech and computer savvy young BJP is all set to have more women in the forefront.
The youthful party cadre has not only been asked to reload its recruitment programme to induct more women in the party fold, but also asked the workers to popularise the saffron brigade in the cyber space through numerous social networking sites. Kicking ideas around, Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur, who is also the national president of the BJP youth wing, asked the members of the State’s Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to strengthen the party unit by giving fair representation to the ‘fair sex’.
In addition, Thakur also asked to bring changes in the party with the changing times, and keep pace with advancement in technology. Thakur, who was in the city to inaugurate the State executive meet of Punjab BJYM on Wednesday, asked the youth wing to make efforts to bring more and more girls in the party fold during its ongoing membership drive. “All political parties are giving at least four per cent reservation to the women. We should also make efforts to increase participation of womenfolk in the party,” said Thakur while addressing the party workers.
Commenced from July 23, with the aim of adding five lakh new members, the Punjab’s BJYM has succeeded in already inducting 19,500 new members on the first day of the membership drive - Yuva Sadasya - Yuva Mitra Abhiyan.
Stressing on the importance of the social networking sites, Thakur asked the workers to make the optimum use of such sites, including Twitter, Facebook, Whats App, to send across the message to the maximum people in a short time. “Social networking sites, in today’s time, have so much importance for every political party that it can mar and make the image of any party or an individual by just one statement. It has the great power to form a public opinion in a short time on any issue,” said Thakur.
“Anything you put up on a website or write, spread in seconds across globe. While it takes almost the entire day to cover just hundreds of people by telephone. But, one should remain very careful while making any comment on the portals as one wrong statement may prove harmful. Use the web media, but with caution, and remaining in your limits,” Thakur gave a work of advice to the party cadre. Citing examples of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the leader of Opposition in lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Thakur said the two party leaders have more than 30 lakh followers on Facebook and Twitter.
Besides becoming active on the social sites, the young saffron brigade would also indulge in social welfare activities. It would form a blood group directory of party workers, form a legal advisory committee, along with setting up information technology and study committees, among other things. “We will form a blood group directory of the party workers which will be useful to contact the concerned party worker at a time of blood requirement of a particular blood group. Besides, legal aid service would also be started to provide free legal aid to the poor and needy,” said Thakur.
Highlighting BJYM’s national activities, Thakur said the party’s youth wing will organise nearly 200 rallies across country in the coming days and youth will be motivated to bring BJP back to power at the Centre. “Youth from every region, every caste and community will be inducted into the BJYM,” he added.
Thakur pointed out that UPA Government has created mere 29 lakh job opportunities during its over nine-year rule, while more than 6.25 crore job opportunities were created during six-year rule of BJP Government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He alleged the Congress party for “dividing the country on the basis of religion and trying to harm the harmony of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood to gain political benefits out of it”.
