Even after three months of current academic session, computer labs set up by Haryana Government at a cost of lakhs of rupees in Government schools are gather dust owing to non-availability of computer teachers.
Though the education department is washing its hand off saying that the process to appoint the computer teachers through out-sourcing has already been rolled out and the schools will get the IT teachers soon but the fact is that the department is not serious towards this burning problem being faced by a large numbers of school students in the State. The education department has given some IT societies contract to recruit the computer teachers for the schools across the State. The societies have already conducted the interviews for the same but are not declaring their results for reasons best known to them.
The State Government had installed computer labs in all Government schools across the state by spending a huge amount in order to impart computer education to its students so that they could not lag behind from students of the private schools. “The Government while taking the issue seriously should direct the societies for the recruitment of computer teachers without further delay to avoid the loss of poor students who wish to learn the computer skills but are helpless to do so because non-availability of computer teachers there,” said a principal of a Government senior secondary school here on anonymity.
The principal maintained that his students had persistently been demanding the computer teachers to learn the information technology for last some time but he did not have any option except to urge the higher officials about availability of computer teachers in his school. “How can I turn down this justified demand of the students when a computer lab is in existence in their school to get computer education,” he questioned.
Another teacher maintained that computers were lying unused in the labs while the students were waiting for the teachers to be familiar with IT skills so the education department must ensure the availability of computer teachers in the government schools at the earliest if it wished to impart the students computer education in a real sense. Jhajjar District Education Officer (DEO) Sadhu Ram Rohilla said new IT teachers were being recruited as term of the contractual IT teachers had expired. "The schools will get new teachers soon as the interview to recruit the teachers have been conducted," he added.
