Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday lashed out at the Badals and Majithia. Besides, he also made an apparent attempt to woo the State's youth, ex-servicemen and minority communities ahead 2017 polls.
But at the same time, segregating politics from personal relations, Capt Amarinder make sure to visit PCC Chief Partap Singh Bajwa for condoling his mother’s demise at his native village, Qadian.
The condolence came a day after the spank on Wednesday for issuing show cause notices to three party leaders, owing allegiance to Capt Amarinder, for indiscipline.
The former chief minister, addressing a rally in Gurdaspur on Day 2 of his mass contact programme, warned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his deputy son Sukhbir Badal and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia that they will have to pay for their sins of spreading and promoting supply of drugs in Punjab that has devastated an entire generation.
Referring to the daily deaths of youth reported from the area because of drugs, Capt Amarinder said: “During last two days, three youth had been reported dead, while 14 others are struggling for life…And this is all because of silence of and support to drug smuggling and pedaling by Badals and Majithia who have pushed our youth towards addiction.”
He said: “The government is supposed to stop and prevent such things but what to talk of stopping these, the Badals are promoting it.”
Amritsar MP, addressing a rally organized by senior party leader Raman Behal, referred to hundreds of false cases registered against the Congress workers at the behest of Akalis.
“Not only will all these FIRs be cancelled, but cases will be registered against all those who falsely implicated the Congressmen…The police officials who acted partially against the Congress workers at the behest of Akalis will also be dealt with according to the law,” he warned.
Making a reference to the alleged land grabbing by local SAD MlA Gurbachan Singh Babbehali forcing scores of people out of their land, Capt Amarinder promised that he will ensure that the MlA was put behind bars once Congress came to power.
The senior Congress leader quipped that Badal had only three fixations throughout his life “and these includes Sangat Darshan, Focal Point and Adarsh Schools” and he was unable to come out of these.
Not sparing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for its failure to fulfil the promise of one rank one pension (OROP) to the ex-servicemen, Capt Amarinder reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise before elections of granting OROP.
Capt Amarinder also assured the minorities like the Christians and the Muslims of safety, security, respect and equal participation and representation in the development. “We are all Indians irrespective of which faith we belong to,” he assured.
