Himachal Pradesh braces itself for a much-needed wet spell as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a weather alert forecasting rain and snow from January 31 to February 2, 2024. The alert comes as a ray of hope for the rain-starved region, with meteorological experts predicting the arrival of two consecutive western disturbances.

As per the advisory issued by the IMD, light to moderate precipitation is expected across the State, with particular emphasis on districts including Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kullu, and the higher reaches of Mandi and Shimla. Additionally, one or two spells of heavy rain and snowfall are anticipated during this period, which may pose challenges for residents and travelers alike.

The advisory further warned of occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in mid and high hill areas, emphasizing the potential impact on essential services such as water, electricity, and communications. Reduced visibility, due to heavy snowfall, could lead to commuting difficulties and possible traffic disruptions, especially in the mid and high hills.

Farmers and livestock owners are urged to take necessary precautions, with livestock advised to be kept indoors due to low temperatures. Beekeepers are also advised to provide winter packing to colonies and artificial food due to flower scarcity.

In light of the impending weather conditions, citizens are advised to follow traffic advisories and adhere to guidelines issued by concerned departments. Commuters and tourists are encouraged to check for traffic congestion before departing, ensuring their safety during travel.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the weather situation develops. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impact of the upcoming weather conditions, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and community cooperation during this time of heightened alert.
