Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Wednesday directed the vice-chancellors of various universities to identify and analyze the areas for quality education so that the state could emerge as an education hub.
The Chief Minister while speaking at the state level conference of vice-chancellors of state universities asked the vice-chancellors to secure the future of the coming generations while making selection of the faculty in their respective educational institutions and lay greater emphasis on vocational education.
He stressed the need for transparency in the recruitment process and said that there should be no compromise on such issues. Good faculty is essential in higher education for providing quality education to the youth so that they could grow as good citizens of the state and the nation, said Manohar lal.
He said the vice-chancellors served as head of university for a limited period of time, but the faculty they recommended for selection, rendered service for about 35 years in shaping the destiny of our future generations. The quality of education must be made base for the teaching, he said.
Describing employment-oriented education as the need of the hour, the Chief Minister said that universities should also lay emphasis on skill development of the youth so that they could become employable as per their expertise.
During the conference, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma directed the vice-chancellors of the universities in the state to collect data of students from other states and countries studying in their universities and colleges affiliated to them.
Due to better quality of higher education available in Haryana, the number of students from other states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha has been increasing, he said.
Sharma also urged the vice-chancellors to organise seminars or symposiums on historical places like Saraswati river so that students could become familiar with their cultural and the value system. They should introduce such courses in universities as would facilitate skill development in students and help them in getting jobs, said he.
The vice-chancellors should identify and hone the talents in students and promote them according to their interests, he added.
Meanwhile, Haryana Government has extended the term of the committee constituted for conducting student union elections in colleges and universities in the state.
“20 more days has been given to the committee so that it could prepare complete data pertaining to the elections,” said Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, while interacting with mediapersons after the conference the vice-chancellors of various universities in the state.
Haryana Government had formed a four-member committee for making arrangements for student union elections to be conducted in colleges and universities of the state.
The student union elections are going to be conducted in the state after a gap of nearly two decades as per the recommendations of the lyngdoh Committee.
The elections to the student bodies were banned by the then Chief Minister, Bansi lal, in 1996 in view of the unruly and violent behavior of some students group at that time.
