I feel shocked and ashamed: Capt Amarinder

Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh condemned the incident of molestation that forced a mother and her daughter to jump from a running bus leading to death of the girl. He said it was reflective of the deteriorating law and order situation in the State as the criminals had no fear of law.

“I am shocked and ashamed of such incident that took place in Punjab where nobody came to the rescue of the helpless mother and daughter and eventually they were forced to jump off the running bus to save their honour leading to the death of the girl,” Capt Amarinder said in a statement issued here.

The former Chief Minister demanded time-bound trial of the culprits in a special trial court. “Justice must not be delayed in this matter lest our mothers, sisters and daughters shall be forced to sit at home out of fear for their honour,” he asserted. Besides, he added, the conductor and the driver of the bus must be held equally responsible for not helping the girl and her mother.

“I can feel the grief and the pain of the family as a father as nothing can compensate this tragedy where a young girl gave up her life to save her honour”, he said, adding, this incident must prick the conscience of one and all so that no woman in distress is left at her own mercy while others watch as mute spectators.
