Police has stepped up patrolling along the Indo-Nepal border in Maharajganj (UP) and adjoining districts to nab Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan.
Honeypreet Insan has been booked in Haryana for allegedly inciting violence following the conviction of Dera chief.
A high alert has been sounded in lakhimpur, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Shrawasti and Bahraich — the other districts which border Nepal.
Posters of Honeypreet with an appeal to the public to inform the police if she is sighted, have been pasted on walls along streets and at the police station at Sonauli in Maharajganj close to the Nepal border.
The officials from Central and State intelligence agencies have been camping in UP and Nepal for the past couple of days and keeping a strict eye on movement along the border, said a State police official.
Patrolling of public places such as hotels, railway stations and bus stations has also been intensified, said the official.
Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed to keep vigil on suspects and vehicles transporting goods too were being checked.
All Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) border outposts have also been directed to ensure that Honeypreet does not escape. SSB Deputy Inspector General Ranjeet Singh told the mediapersons said that security personnel have been alerted and asked to ascertain the identity of people before allowing them to cross over the border.
UP shares a 599.3 km long open border with Nepal touching seven districts — Pilibhit, lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Sravasti, Balrampur, Sidhharth-nagar and Maharajganj.
Haryana Police had issued a lookout notice for Honeypreet and teams were formed to arrest her.
Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, has been absconding since August 25 evening. She had accompanied the disgraced godman from Sirsa till the CBI special court in Panchkula where he was convicted on two counts of rape.
later, she even accompanied Ram Rahim in a helicopter from Panchkula to Rohtak after he was convicted in the rape cases and was being shifted to the prison near Rohtak.
Haryana Police has booked Honeypreet for sedition and being involved in an alleged conspiracy to help Ram Rahim escape after his conviction. The state Police had earlier also sent a team to lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh bordering Nepal in search of Honeypreet.
Jailed Ram Rahim, who had earlier mentioned Honeypreet’s name in the list of people he wishes to meet, had later also mentioned Honeypreet as the person he wishes to speak to over the phone.
