Hunger strike will continue, says Gurbaksh

Former militant Gurbakash Singh Khalsa, who has been on hunger strike for the last 43 days demanding release of Sikh six detainees, on Thursday announced from Golden Temple that his hunger strike would continue.

He reached Golden Temple late in the evening with a cavalcade of more than 35 vehicles by road from Gurudwara Amb Sahib in Mohali where he was fasting. On reaching Golden Temple, he went to Akal Takht (Highest Sikh Temporal Seat of Sikhs) and said that his hunger strike would continue unless Government release all the six detainees.

He said that following an edict of Jathedar Akal Takht issued by Gyani Gurbachan Singh, he would continue with the required medical treatment. On December 24, the Jathedar of Akal Takht in an edict had asked Gurbakash Singh to end his hunger strike with immediate effect. Out of six detainees whose release Gurbaksh Singh has been demanding, two — lal Singh and Gurmit Singh — have recently been released on parole.
