Huge haul of illegal liquor seized from Patiala

Punjab Police on Thursday raided a godown confiscating a huge haul of illegal liquor in the CM Capt Amarinder Singh’s home district, Patiala. Coming close on the heels of a huge illegal liquor haul in Khanna in April, the illegal distillery-cum-liquor-bottling plant was busted in Ghanaur, having alleged involvement of Congress leaders.

During the raid, the police have confiscated a huge haul of illegal liquor, besides hundreds of stickers of various whiskey brands, including Royal Stag, that were pasted on the bottles filled with illegal liquor manufactured at the godown.

A Rajpura Police team, following a tip-off on  Wednesday evening, conducted a raid at a godown where the production and packaging was done, and the same has now been sealed.

The police has booked Khanpur Khurd sarpanch Amrik Singh — an aide of Congress MLA from Ghanaur Madan Lal Jalalpur and husband of Zila Parishad member having affiliation with Congress, and Dipesh Kumar — a confidant of Congress MLA Hardial Singh Kamboj. Besides, Harpreet Singh, Bacchi, and Amit Kumar have also been named in the FIR (first information report).

A FIR under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged), 188 (disobeying public official’s order) and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection) of the IPC, sections of the Excise Act, and section 5 of the Disaster Management Act has been registered against accused.
