HSGMC seeks Cong support, asks Sikhs to vote for it in polls

The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on Thursday asked the ruling Congress to give suitable representation to Sikhs in party tickets in the forthcoming State Assembly elections.

“Congress should accommodate people of our community while distributing tickets to the candidates in the State Assembly elections in Haryana”, said Jagdish Singh Jhinda, president of HSGMC.

Committee had called a meeting of all members at Kurukshetra on Thursday and also passed a resolution to support Congress.

Jhinda added that the Sikh population of the State was extremely grateful to the Hooda Government for carving out a separate management committee for Haryana Gurdwaras after a  long gap of 48 years.

He, however,  didn’t specify the numbers of the tickets he wanted for the Sikh community,  There are more than 12 lakh Sikh voters residing in Sirsa, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal lok Sabha constituencies. Jhinda said he would not contest Assembly Election but would concentrate on management of Gurdwaras in Haryana. As of now, Congress has not reacted to the demands.
