Haryana Urban local Bodies Department has prepared a strategy and decided to set up a vigilance team to effectively monitor the quality of development works being carried out by the municipalities of the state.
Urban local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain on Monday said that officers posted in a municipality would not be able to monitor the development works being carried out by their own civic body. It would be done by officials from other municipalities. This will assure effective monitoring and yield better results, she said
A three-member committee of XEN, ME and a commerce officer would be constituted under the chairmanship of Senior Joint Commissioner or Deputy Corporation Commissioner of all Municipal Corporations of the state. They would monitor the quality of development works done by the corporations, municipal councils and municipalities of other districts, except their own.
Besides, a Vigilance team would inspect the ongoing development works in the municipalities and, according to the code of the Public Works Department, samples would be taken and investigated in the laboratory, said the Minister.
She said that the team would redress on the spot any complaint received from general public or any other medium, related to development work and would submit its report direct to the department. In case any irregularities are found in the quality of development work, the team would recommend appropriate action against the concerned officer, employee and contractor, said Jain.
