After announcing to incorporate Gita shlokas in school curriculum, Haryana Government has now decided to also incorporate a chapter related to vector-borne diseases in the school syllabus from class V to VIII. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Monday said that in order to make children aware of vector borne diseases, one chapter each would be incorporated in the school syllabus from class V to VIII. Under this, detailed information would be given to children regarding diseases being spread by mosquitoes and filth.
Vij said that it is important that people should have full knowledge about diseases in order to prevent damage caused by them. Therefore, it has been decided to incorporate one chapter each in syllabus so as to make children aware of vector borne diseases. The Health Minister said that the chapter would be incorporated under ‘Class Reading Programme’ activity under which children would not only be informed about diseases being spread due to mosquitoes, but also children would be educated to avoid illness through experimental procedures.
Vij said that under this activity which would be implemented in April-May, teachers of schools alongwith employees or doctors of Health Department would also help in spreading awareness among children from Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and Sub Divisional Hospitals in concerned areas. These chapters would provide information about diseases like malaria, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis.
The children would be inspired to ensure cleanliness in their surroundings and to avoid mosquitoes and diseases caused by them. The Health Department would provide information to children from time to time about the campaign being run in this direction, he added. Earlier, the BJP-led State Government had announced to introduce Yoga and Gita Shlokas in school curriculum from this academic session. Haryana Government’s Educational Consultative Committee, headed by RSS ideologue Dinanath Batra, is expected to advise the State Council of Educational Research and Training on selection of Bhagvad Gita slokas to be introduced in school curriculum.
