Hry Police makes another arrest in double murder case

Six months after a woman and a cop escorting her were shot dead in Rohtak in a case of honour killing, Haryana Police on Monday arrested another accused involved in the double murder.

“The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Haryana Police has arrested another accused. He has been identified as Vikas, a resident of Barmoli, district Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh, who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh. Seven others involved in this case have already been arrested and put behind bars,” said a spokesman of Police Department.

18-year old Mamta and a Sub-Inspector Narendra escorting her in court premises at Rohtak were shot dead by three unidentified bike-borne assailants in August last year.

Mamta’s murder was planned and ordered by her family members as she had married a dalit boy against their wishes.

Earlier, police had arrested both real and foster parents of Mamta, who was involved in the incident. The three bike-borne assailants were also arrested by police alongwith weapons on August 14.

The spokesman said that during preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that arrested accused Vikas is a member of Meerut’s notorious Yogesh Bhadora gang, who had to commit the crime but could not execute it due to some reasons.

The weapons used in crime were delivered by Vikas, who is also an arms supplier.

The accused was arrested following a secret information. Police is also conducting raids in search of Mamta’s cousin Sombir, who will be arrested soon, he added.
