Hry Govt wants reduction in GST on plywood, spare parts

The Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana will press for reduction in GST on plywood and spare parts used in farm equipment in the upcoming meeting of the GST council to be held at Guwahati on November 10.

Haryana Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, while talking to the mediapersons on Friday said as far as Haryana is concerned, there are two issues pertaining to the GST which are pending in the GST council.

We are demanding tax rate on plywood be reduced from 28 per cent to 18 per cent, said he.

Notably, the plywood sector in Yamunanagar district is known as country’s plywood manufacturing hub and is one of Asia’s largest timber markets. It alone contributes about 40 per cent of total plywood production in the country.

Capt. Abhimanyu said that on the demand of the State Government, tax on agriculture implements has been reduced to 12 per cent but on some spare parts, it is 18 per cent. We have demanded to reduce this tax and hope that the matter would be taken in the upcoming meeting of the GST Council, said he.

On the issue of slashing rates of petrol and diesel, he said that rate of petrol and diesel in Haryana is lower than that of prices in other neighboring states.

The 23rd meeting of the GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and comprising representatives of all states, will be held in Guwahati, Assam on November 10.
