The Manohar Lal Khattar Government on Tuesday decided to postpone the district-level events to be held on July 3 to distribute free laptops to meritorious students in the state.
The State Government which had in 2016 announced to give laptops to 500 meritorious students who secure a minimum of 95 per cent marks in Class 10 Board examination, was to hold its first event in all districts to fulfill its promise.
However, the event has been cancelled till the announcement of a fresh date. A communication in this regard was sent to all district education officers from the Department of School Education, Haryana.
“District-level functions were to be organized on July 3 to five laptops to meritorious students of 2016, 2017 and 2018 in class 10 exam conducted by Haryana School Education Board. The said functions have been postponed now till the announcement of a fresh date, which will be announced soon,” the letter stated. No reason has been mentioned in the letter over the postponement.
Notably, the State Government had in 2016 announced free laptops to 500 meritorious students who secure a minimum of 95 per cent marks in Class 10 Board examination.
Under this, 100 laptops are proposed to be provided to top 100 students in the merit list of the Board irrespective of their caste, sex or economic status, an equal number of laptops would be given to top girl students belonging to general category.
Laptops would also be provided to top one hundred boys and an equal number of girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, and the remaining one hundred laptops to students belonging to Below Poverty Line families, in the merit list of the Board
The State Government had announced an additional expenditure of about Rs 2.5 crore on account for this. Recent, the Jannayak Janta Party leader and former MP Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday said that the State Government is insulting the meritorious students.
This government had earlier cancelled a function to honour the sportspersons of the state and now, doing the same to the meritorious students. The government should clarify the reason of delay of three years in distributing laptops to the students, he added.
