Haryana DGP BS Sandhu, who was due to retire on September 30, got a three-month extension on Friday.

According to official orders, the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the Home Ministry’s proposal for extension in service of Sandhu for a period of three month beyond his superannuation i.e. on September 30, in relaxation of relevant rules in "public interest".

Earlier, the Manohar Lal Khattar Government in Haryana had approached the Centre, seeking extension of Sandhu’s tenure as the DGP.  Sandhu was appointed as the DGP on April 27, 2017.

On September 19, Haryana’s Home Department, had issued orders regarding retirement of DGP, but withdrew it few hours later realizing the faux pas.

The order had created a flutter as the State Government had approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking a seven-month extension in service for Sandhu.
