Hry Cong infighting: Hooda convenes party meeting, Tanwar unaware

Published on:

With Haryana Congress riven by factionalism, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has convened a party meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday while party State chief Ashok Tanwar denied having information of any such meeting.

The two-time Chief Minister Hooda has convened a meeting of current and former MlAs, MPs  and senior party leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss  a series of issues including farmers’ woes, Sutlej Yamuna link canal, law and order situation in Haryana among others.

On the other hand, Ashok Tanwar on Monday claimed having no such information of the meeting.

When asked whether he will attend the meeting convened by Hooda, Tanwar while talking to the mediapersons said he would not attend it.

Hooda and Tanwar have been at loggerheads for a long time and the bickering had escalated after the party workers clash in New Delhi last year where Tanwar had sustained injuries and accused Hooda of planning the attack on him.

last month, not a single MlA and party’s lone MP had attended the meeting convened by Tanwar for holding discussions on organisational elections. While the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee had invited all its office-bearers, legislators and MP at its office here on May 30, all legislators and lone MP Deependra Singh Hooda had stayed away from Tanwar’s meeting.

On the same day, MlAs, owing allegiance to  Hooda had held a separate meeting and also addressed a Press conference to defend the former CM in Manesar land deal scam, which is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

After the party workers clash in New Delhi, the MlAs, owing allegiance to former Chief Minister Hooda had made it clear to the party high command that they will not attend any party meeting convened by Tanwar. The MlAs had also demanded Tanwar’s removal from the top position.

At present, hectic lobbying is on in the Congress with central leadership mulling to reorganise the State party unit, which is marred by factionalism.

Meanwhile, Bhupinder Singh Hooda is all set to chair a party meeting on Tuesday. The party has decided to kick off a state-wide agitation to pressurise the BJP government at the Centre and State to implement the Swaminathan report. Issues including law and order situation in Haryana, Sutlej Yamuna link canal, power and water shortage in Haryana would also discussed at the meeting.
