The Bharatiya Janata Party in Haryana on Sunday began its two-week long 'Tiranga Yatra' ahead of Independence Day from Bhiwani district.
The party's state chief OP Dhankar along with state Agriculture Minister JP Dalal rode a tractor with tricolour fixed on its both sides during the 'yatra' which was taken out on about 30-km long route from Bahal to Loharu in Bhiwani.
Carrying tricolours, a large number of tractors and other vehicles were also part of the event.
Dhankar claimed that thousands of farmers also joined the event.
Over the next two weeks, the 'yatra' will be taken out in all the 90 assembly constituencies and senior leaders of the party will take part in it.
The 'yatra' in Bahal began after BJP leaders and others took part in the event and paid floral tributes to legendary martyr Bhagat Singh. 'Vande Mataram' and ''Bharat Mata ki Jai' slogans were also chanted by the party leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhankhar said that the farmers of Loharu, who arrived with their tractors during the Tricolor Yatra, know that their millet was bought at the government price, water was delivered to the tail' end, government jobs reached every part of the state on the basis of merit. Talented children of farmers, laborers and the poor got their due under the BJP Government, he said.
The BJP state chief said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, BJP has done the work of making the slogan of Jai Jawan- Jai Kisan meaningful. Dhankar said, 'Tiranga Yatra' aims to inculcate a spirit of patriotism among the younger generation. Sacrifices made by our freedom fighters will be highlighted and tributes will be paid to them, he added.
Notably, the saffron party has planned a mega show of nationalism and patriotism from August 1-14 across 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana. From Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Cabinet Ministers, MLAs to chairman of Boards and Corporations, all party leaders will lead these yatras in their respective assembly constituencies holding the tricolour.
During the two-week-long 'yatra', BJP leaders would also pay homage to great freedom fighters and unsung heroes of India's freedom movement.
While talking to the mediapersons, Dhankar said that thousands of farmers are taking part in this event in Bhiwani.
Hitting out at the opposition, the BJP leader said "those who see this 'yatra' through a political prism shows that they are narrow minded."
He also accused the Congress and other opposition parties of indulging in politics in the name of farmers. This Yatra has started from Bhiwani and will travel to all corners of the state, he said.
Meanwhile, Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of over 40 farmer organisations spearheading a stir against the Centre's three farm laws, has said that they will not oppose the 'yatra'.
