'HPCA not personal property; shaped future of sports'

With prosecution sanction against former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal becoming a political hot potato in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP leader on Friday reacted saying the cricket association is not the personal property of anyone.

The Governor gave prosecution sanction against Dhumal, leader of Opposition, in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) irregularities case earlier this week.“I have full faith in judiciary and can only say that truth will prevail at the end,” said Dhumal, adding that Government is indulging in malicious campaign against its detractors by fabricating them in false cases just to divert public attention for one-year misrule of Congress Government.

“The land was given to HPCA by the Cabinet and not me for encouraging sports in the State and as a result number of cricket players are now securing their places at national level,” said Dhumal. He said Rishi Dhawan from Mandi got selected in IPl and Sushma Verma from Shimla got selected in India’s women national cricket team.

“If Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh thinks that holding a cricket tournament named as Padam Singh Memorial on his father’s memory and volleyball tournament in the name of his mother, he has contributed to sports, then he is wrong,” added Dhumal before leaving for marathon campaign in Shimla district from his official residence in the State capital. “HPCA can never be compared to Padam Singh Memorial cricket tournament and it is not a personal property of anyone,” said Dhumal. He alleged that vigilance officials were being pressurised to complete the investigation and make the chargesheet anyhow to implicate the detractors but at the end truth prevails.

On the prosecution sanction given by the Governor against him, Dhumal said that it is fabricated case and everyone knows who is corrupt. “Everyone knows who has favoured promoter of Sai Kothi project, everyone knows who has received payoffs from Ispat steel and everyone knows who transported tonnes of apples on scooters and oil tankers and everyone knows who is corrupt or innocent,” added Dhumal

leader of Opposition sarcastically said that people of the State know how Chief Minister managed clean chit in Sagar Katha case and CD case, the cases which he boasts of clean chit. “The HPCA case is just an attempt to divert public attention from real issues of public like price hike, corruption and failure of Government machinery in the State in past one year,” he added.

On Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s allegations that he is autocratic, Dhumal said that he has full knowledge of constitution and the State Government which fails to uphold the constitution of country has been removed from time to time.
