Brimming with confidence, Himachal Congress on Monday claimed that it would win more than 40 seats and retain power in the State which went to polls on November 9.
Insisting that the figures were based on an internal survey conducted by Himachal Pradesh Congress, State party president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the survey and feedback of the people had indicated win for Congress candidates on more than 40 seats and the party figure would be between 40 to 42 in polls. Addressing media in Shimla, Sukhu said Congress was heading towards forming Government in the State once again. The Congress’ internal survey has also indicated bright prospects for the independents, as Sukhu said that the independent candidates might occupy four to five seats in the results to be declared on December 18.
Sukhu claimed that many sitting MlAs of rival BJP may lose their seats in the polls as Congress had particularly performed very well in those Assembly segments, where the BJP legislators had been elected last time.
Expressing confidence of winning his election from Nadaun Assembly constituency, Sukhu said that BJP could not get high swing in polling in Hamirpur district and he would manage to win his seat with a comfortable margin. Sukhu said Congress had got good understanding of the issues of those seats, where it could not register a win in the previous two or three elections, and had worked on the ground realities in such Assembly segments.
He said, “People of the state are not happy with the three-and-half-years rule of Modi Government as it had failed on each front. BJP could not win confidence of youth who are feeling cheated by the Government on account of generating two crore jobs per year.”
Sukhu said BJP MlAs who had been representing a particular Assembly for last two to three terms could not spell out five big works in their Assembly segments. There were hardly any achievements of the BJP legislators.
He said BJP had been trying to corner Congress Government in the State, however, it could not win the mood of masses, with its Rath Yatra and seven big rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “BJP tried hard to create a rift in Congress, but it could not,” he added. Sending a strict warning to the party rebels, he said that party would not tolerate any indiscipline, adding that many rebels had been shown door and whoever did not tow the party line, would not be spared.
