With the increasing number of cases of fake currency being busted in the State, Himachal Pradesh police has sought help from National Investigating Agency (NIA) to look into the matter, which is gradually spreading its tentacles in the State.
Along with NIA, Himachal Police has also sought help from Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB) to unearth the routes of fake currencies and dismantle the racket. Both NIA and CEIB are nodal agencies for investigation in fake currency in the country.
DGP B Kamal Kumar wrote a letter to the central agencies saying that though the amount recovered during busting of fake currency rackets is less but the problem seems to have percolated across the Sate, which is matter of concern to the police.
Police has till now busted 7 fake currency rackets at Kullu, Mandi, Una, Chamba, Kangra and Solan and has till now recovered more than Rs25 lakhs of fake Indian currency notes. “Yes, since these two agencies are nodal agencies on fake currency in the country we have sought help from them to unearth more such modules and plugging of routes,” said Kumar.
According to state police, the route of fake currency is eastern international borders like that of Nepal and Bangladesh and North Eastern states borders of the country, which has already been a matter of concern for its porous nature.
He said that if NIA and CEIB teams wish to do field works in the State in order to contain the fake currency racket which is damaging the economy of the country as well as State.
