Himachal Pradesh State Co-operative Milk Producers Federation on Tuesday said it has ushered in a white revolution in the State despite the rugged and tough terrains and high altitude snow-capped mountains.
Talking to reporters here, Chairman of the HP Milk Federation, Chet Ram Thakur said that in all areas of the State, including the remote lahul- Spiti, marketing facilities were being made available at their door-step. “The Federation has, therefore, proved a boon for the milk producers of tribal and the far-flung vales of the hilly State,” Thakur said.
He said the Federation through its network of nine milk plants spread over the State, was processing 90,000 liters of milk daily. In addition to it, the Federation has also set up a milk powder plant of five metric tones capacity at Dant Nagar Shimla. The Federation is also supplying nutritive feed through its plant at Hamirpur to milk producers at concessional price with the view to promoting animal husbandry. This is also proving a big boon, he added.
Thakur said that for the first time on Diwali this year, about 500 quintals of sweets made of pure desi ghee of peculiar hill flavor were sold in places like Kalka, Panchkula, Baddi, Chandi Mandir and Nalagarh. The supply fell short of demand and the items were sold like hot cakes, he added.
