Himachal Pradesh Congress’ two disqualified MLAs — Rajinder Rana and Sudhir Sharma — have reported receiving a handwritten one-page threat letter, warning them to refrain from provoking other legislators. Rana's son, Abhishek, disclosed this development on Wednesday, raising concerns about the safety of their family.

The ominous letter, penned in Hindi, explicitly warned Rana and Sharma to cease their alleged incitement of fellow legislators. It ominously declared, “Stop provoking other legislators. If you do not mend your ways, your family will not be safe. Consider this letter as the last warning.”

Rana and Sharma are among the six Congress rebels who faced disqualification for defying a party whip during a crucial Vidhan Sabha session. They were found to have been present in the House and voted in favour of the Government on cut motions and the finance bill (Budget), contrary to the party's directives. Their vote favoured the BJP candidate in Rajya Sabha polls, exacerbating the political rift within the Congress party.

The threatening letter, originating from an unknown source, was delivered to Rana’s residence in Patlander near Sujanpur, located in Himachal’s Hamirpur district, on Tuesday evening via postal mail. The contents of the letter were read by Rana’s personal assistant.

Confirming the receipt of the threatening letter, Abhishek informed that the family had also received a menacing phone call, warning them of dire consequences if they failed to adhere to the demands outlined in the letter. Alarmed by the threats, Abhishek promptly lodged a formal complaint with the Sujanpur police, prompting a visit from the Station House Officer (SHO), who collected the letter as evidence.

In response to the security concerns raised by the threatening communication, security measures have been escalated outside Rana's residence in Patlander. CRPF jawans have been stationed outside the house for the past week to ensure the safety and protection of the family amidst the escalating tensions.
