Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has sought cooperation of the judiciary to ensure effective implementation of various measures being taken for the safety, empowerment and dignity of women.

He said while on one hand, there was a need to change the mindset of the people, on the other, judiciary might give more landmark decisions to make indelible mark on the minds of the people, as have been given in the past. Hooda while speaking at National Judicial Conference on the topic of Women Rights Are Human Rights: Role of Judiciary to Transform the Rhetoric into Reality, here urged the judiciary to put the disposal of cases of crime against women on fast track.

He said his Government had setup 21 fast track courts for trial of the cases of crime against women. During the month of September 2013, as many as 56 cases of rape were disposed off by the courts, out of these 24 cases ended in conviction. While underlining the significance of the women in society, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice RM lodha said that as a bird cannot fly with one wing, a nation also cannot achieve the heights where the women are victimized and dishonoured. Right from the year 1971 to 2012, crimes against women has increased by 902 per cent and correspondingly the punishment rate has fallen down.
